Hi Mike. CometAnywhere is a thin-client product that allows a Comet session to run remotely over a TCP/IP connection. It uses port 11751 for TCP/IP communication. It is configured by specifying a type 3 session in your configuration .INI file. Also note that each CometAnywhere session requires a license from your security server. The main advantage of CometAnywhere is that a user can connect a Comet session over a LAN or the internet without requiring a full Comet installation on his computer.

Disadvantages vary depending on the applications being run. In general, most any Comet program will work well over a CometAnywhere connection. Because information is being transmitted over relatively slow pathways (as compared to a direct Comet interface) some programs may run slow. While most programs run very well, ther are always those that perform heavy screen I/O (often un-necessarily) and may suffer more than most. I would recommend that a test be performed to determine if CometAnywhere is right for you. One other important point is that if you intend to use CometAnywhere in a "always-on" configuration (which is very common in the Comet community), you must ensure a very high quality and reliable TCP/IP connection to your ISP.

Comet allows up to 1000 sessions to be hosted from a single server (both local and remote), but it's unlikely the computer would be able to handle that many. It is really more a function of the programs as to how many connections a server can support and how much bandwidth will be required. Again, testing is the best way to determine this.

Hopefully, other CometAnywhere users will chime in here and give you their take and experiences with the product.
