We did discuss rethinking the .d00 issue at the Las Vegas meeting. We still intend to address that. Originally it was done as it was so that you could use long file names for the .d00 files. This means, of course, that they can't be stored in the qdir. Yes, allowing long filenames in the qdir is another thing "on the list".
Right now we are busy developing the "big" features of Comet 2006, again based on discussions at the Las Vegas meeting. Your final comment suggested that you were reluctant to install any of the new stuff (ie CFAM) that we had done in the past couple of years because of small inconveniences such as this. I hope this wasn't what you meant. We have done lots of good stuff, and there's more to come.
