That's right, you heard it here first. With the release of build 361, in the download folder now, Comet 2006 offers FREE XAP for every user.
This is a restricted version of xap. It will only serve pages to itself. If you specify the server as "localhost" or "127.0.0.1" xap will work exactly as the full fledged version.
This means that anyone can develop dynamic web pages using Comet. Developers can make a preliminary version of a web site and then later "publish" it by copying it to the shared xap server.
Here is how you do it.
Configure an xap gateway just as if you had an xap license.
Configure a comet directory named XAP.
When Comet loads, run xapmon.
You will see that it will validate an xap gateway for local use only. You may then flag 3 or flag 2 out of xapmon. Xap will continue to run.
Any program located in the xap directory will be run from the browser connection when selected. As a starter, compile the attached program into the xap directory. It will be named CGITEST.
To launch the program, send your browser to the following URL:
http://127.0.0.1/xap/cgitest
You should see the results. You are now on your way to developing dynamic web pages with Comet. Follow the link below to the tutorial and learn more about this exciting aspect of Comet.
