We cannot imagine what changes we might have made to cause this behavior to start. Depending on which version of the security server you were on before, you might want to install just it from that release (CSecSrv.exe) to confirm or not that the problem is related to some change in 5.10. Perhaps it's related to shutting down the service while users are still connected.
Just so you know, if the reason you are shutting down the services for backup is so that the qdirs will be available, that won't be a problem sometime here in the "near" future. We are testing a version of CFileSrv that doesn't keep the qdirs open.
