Security Server Problem

This is REALLY beginning to become a problem for us. Jon Sacks is running his security server on a different server, and never shutting it down to compensate for this. Does anyone know how to shut down just the database server using net start/stop commands?

We're running the comet server products v.510. Since installing 510, we have a problem some mornings getting the Comet services to start properly. Each (early) morning, our backup routine issues a NET STOP COMETSERVICES command before the backup job, and a NET START COMETSERVICES command afterwards. However, when people come in and attempt to start comet, we get an error message stating that a security server cannot be found. Stopping and starting the service fails to properly start the services, and we have to reboot. Sometimes, 2 or 3 times before we can get the services to start properly. Is there something we can do to help try and diagnose where the services is failing to start?
