It's going to be tough for us to assist you with an installation that is so old. You must realize that we do not maintain such a configuration anymore. Since supposedly the only things that changed were the hardware and the Windows version, I'd look there first. Make sure you have all the recommended service packs installed for Windows 2000. If you've noticed any problems outside of Comet, perhaps that will give you a clue.
Other than that, I can tell you that there were many update releases made to Comet 98 beyond the version which you are running. As a matter of fact, .293 is the most recent one available from our download site.
Below is a link to the documentation for the updates made. Scroll down to "Archives", then select "Comet 98". Perhaps if you read thru the ones since .266 you will find a reference to the problem you are having.
