We have this issue here, we try and maintain 24x7, but we cheat a little. XAPMON is an enter program, I wrote a front end that schedules an unload of Comet and XAP (I can send it to you if you want). XAP unloads about 1min before the backup starts, backup is disk to disk and takes about 10 min to backup the 25GB of Comet data.
We then backup the disk backup to tape.
