For the longest time, every time one of my clients perform a backup the XAP application gets a CometServe Timeout error. I know for a fact that when the backup is performed (3 servers to one LTO tape autoloader on a gigabit backbone) Comet slows to a total crawl, thus the CometServe timeout.
We are exploring different avenues for backups including the use a Microsoft's Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS). I know the ArcServe 11.5 backup software is VSS aware, but I am wondering if CometServe is?
Other alternatives considered include having a disk-to-disk-to-tape backup using another server with a couple of 300GB drives and find a way to replicate the data between servers... Nothing found yet.
Total backup is around 600GB now and growing daily. This site has about a terabyte of disk space. Comet Data is less than 200GB.
Anyone has a working solution for backing up a Comet site that uses XAP and need 24x7 up time?
