It's been a year since I did this and I hope I'm remembering the right settings. If you have Exchange 2003, you can change the SMTP Virtual Server to accept emailptr email.

In Exchange System Manager, bore down to the Defaul SMTP Virtual Server, right click and select Properties. See the screen shot.

1. Select Access.
2. Select Relay.
3. Uncheck Allow, which enables the Users button.
4. Add Domain Users and give them Submit but not Relay.

5. Do several Applies until you get back to Access.
Select Authentication. There are three methods. I have Autonymous checked and Basic and Integrated unchecked.

6. In Relay Restrictions you should see your external IP, 127...., and your 10.....2 IP's listed as Granted.

Not sure if #5 and #6 matter. With these settings I have no problem with Outlook 2003. I've also check Exchange fromn the outside to be sure that I didn't make it a open relay. Don't remember if I had to do a restart (via Services) on Exchange, the SMTP Virual Server, or whether the new settings kicked in after a brief delay.
