I think Windows will actually take both kinds of slashes (mostly), but those slashes are really backward.
Isn't there a problem with path names containing spaces? I think you may have to put quotes around the path name, or at least the part of it that contains a apace.
You could also go to the owning machine and create a share with a simpler name, but that may be too easy.
