Launching Excel

I am trying to launch excel on an XP. The path is c:\program files\microsoft office\office\excel.exe. The launch appears to be taking c:\program as the program and files\microsoft as the file name to open. Of course it can't find it. I think it is the spaces in the folder names that is creating problems. Any ideas how to get past this?
