I downloaded the latest ibinstall and that has cleared up the Cometanywhere question. ( It only takes 15 minutes to download- I may have to move to somewhere that I can get broadband)
I added the compile icon to the tool bar , even though it calls it user tool 1, despite being called compile on the drop down commands box.
The original confusion was that the problems eventually went away of their own accord. I will load it onto another machine and see if that Ibinstall solved all the problems.
