Funny how just three years ago we retired an old Qantel and replaced it with a P4 rocket. Old Qantel took 3-4 hours to produce a trial balance report (yes, they ran at the end of the day, made sure there was enough paper and prayed it did not jam). Today, the same report takes 3-4 minutes, they can use LPH and they want it in the amount of time they can hold their breath! And the month-end, lets just say it was run on Fridays.
I believe current technology has enhanced a programmers abilities to be more lazy and under-engineer their coding abilities. Back on my old Commodore Pet we worked with 4k of ram and a voice tape drive. Every character counted!
