Back in my Qantel days, we developed software using a Q264 processor. At the time, boy was that fast!!! Along came Signature with little ol' Comet running on a 286 Pc. After setting Comet up and transferring TEST4 to the Q264, we set them up side by side and ran the test. 100 records, 10 times. The Q264 took almost 90 seconds to finish. The 286 took less than 30 seconds. DAM!!!!! Now this was eons ago.. Today, I have a Windows 2003 network, raid5, 2 gig mem server 3.0 Ghz. Setup, also have 3.0 Ghz clients. Using local disc TEST4 100/10 clocks under 1 second (.85), over network it's still under 1 second (.91). I'm amazed at these speeds. In the past, using Qantel if I compiled 100's of programs, the whole company suffered for hours. Today, with Comet it takes less then 10 minutes and nobody suffers. This leads me to the question: What are you trying to do? What's the app that's so CPU intensive that you must use best/better/faster??
