Test Comet Anywhere setup

In the next few days I will be configuring a CA setup so I can test some software changes. My laptop, running CA, will connect to my desktop (host) behind my router.
Must I use a static local IP for the desktop or can I connect using the computer's name? If so what is the syntax? What is the computer's name? Where can I find it? There are so many names in WinDoze.
