I google alot and ran into a blog stating XP is twice as fast as Vista. So I ran my tests. Here's the scoop: On a Windows 2003 Server network.
Windows 2003 Server single core, 3.00 ghz, 1 gig mem. XP Pc is 2.8 Ghz, single core with 1 gig mem. Vista PC is 3.00 ghz, single core with 2 gig mem. Ran Sig's TEST4 program, 1000 records, 1000 iterations. Here's my results: XP - 861 seconds, VISTA - 923 seconds. Directory existed on 2003 Server, so both PC's were competing with each other on the network.
Have Giga-bit network cards... So XP was 7% faster, even though is was a slower PC then VISTA. Conclusion? So what, VISTA has more under the hood than XP. Run the same tests on a DOS PC from yester-year on a Novell network and you would blow away today's PC and OS's..
