Tried every possible way without success, but did find one of my old programs using it and works this way.
1). In the Specifications, define Whatever(any word) as you would any string variable, EXAMPLE: DEFINE Whatever = "This is my string";16;WHATEVER
2)Then on the TOTAL line it should be the last (end) of all the total columns, otherwise the columns that are being totaled will be screwed up.
Example: TOTAL MONTH.BILL;COUNT;WHATEVER,P
I didn't try it without the ",P". Had spent enough hours trying to make it work all other ways.
Perhaps you should revise your TOTAL command but believe the ",P" is necessary as I did try to get a string in the TOTAL without using the ",P".
