If it's not the color selection, try adding a PRINT '' after the GOSUB. See my posting on the Progress Bar not updating. I've noticed, via the Debugger, GOSUB's to change the dialog don't happen until certain "breaks".
PS: I gave up on the direct method. Could never get the screens to look the same on my customers screens. Too many size variations. And, the underlying CWFONT settings on the workstation had an undesirable effect.
