First this is not an XAP application.
Second the input file I have to deal with seems to be either records of 4500 bytes or unlimited. Why or? When I look at the file in UE the lines are 4500 bytes long, but I have no way of knowing whether or not there is a CR/LF ANYWHERE in the file.
And my task is to make this mess of data look just like the input file that the existing Comet application expects!
And finally I'd prefer not to hard-code data labels. Exactly how I'll implement the parser without hard-coding
the labels is my current brain teaser. At the moment I visualize a keyed file, separate from the parser program, keyed by the data labels (which by the way are duplicated -- and ) containing the position and length in the Comet traditional file. When I find a match in this file, I pop the *value* into my output file; there are many, many fields in the input file that I don't need.
