I'm surprised!! In past blogs you described not marking up Comet upgrade sales in a negative manner. Marking up Comet goes into your pocket and not Sig's. I can't sell Comet with a markup. Sig has done their job, now it's our turn as developers. Back in the DOS days, Comet was more centric. Dealer programmers had more control. 503/504/98/2000 was GREAT! Today is a different matter. Must mix with the rest of the world. Comet programmers are bombarded from every direction. It's difficult to keep up with the world. You gotta buy this and that and interface with that or this. If you have a Comet centric point of view, good luck. More on this later. On to Steve. I would do contracts for short term projects. The client is not going to contact you after the current project is completed. The garage is built. Done! Long term business relationships I charge hourly. It's agreed that life is a bitch and all scenarios can't be pre-defined. It's day-to-day. Can you keep pace with your clients needs? I bill hourly by month. Day by day I document what I have done for any client. At months end I print this out with an invoice and mail it. E-mail printer? There's no disagreement what's been done and installed monthly. No arguments, if you don't lie. My business model is based on honesty and trust. Break the trust, lose your ride! The world is moving faster and faster. My point of view! I'm currently re-learning Comet's HELP system. Thought I knew it real good, back to drawing board.
