"best practice" to clear out "control line"

I'm changing some code which currently uses "hard-coded" message lines to the system control line.

currently the code to clear messages is something like

PRINT (0) (BF),@(0,23)

what's the best way to clear out the system control/message line?

I was wondering if either

PRINT (0) (CFLD);(WC)
-or-
PRINT (0) (WC); (CFLD)

would work.
