a question about transitioning to DocMgr under COMET32

we have a (relatively) small number of programs that have "hard coded" printers... typically only "LP1" or "LP5" (two line printers)

the rest retrieve a 3-character printer address out of a file with individual records keyed to the Terminal id

My question is whether the following is still true:

I've always assumed that this wouldn't have to change since the line printers don't have to be changed, and we'd just have to change the file to the new aliases for the DocMgr output... I read that it can be larger than 3 characters... but 3 should be OK... so that all changes could be made in either:
SYSGEN's .INI file
control file associating printer ID's with terminals
