actually, the records did look OK, but the counts were all off...
I looked at the last record and the last record on the output ("re-built") file was somewhere in the middle of the input file
furthermore, when I got around to looking at it CometEx was saying the output file was 350MB, but Windows Explorer said 3.3GB (more like it)
I know what you're saying about the packing factor on the individual sectors... it's just that as I rebuild, it should be compressing out the deleted records, so the output should always be smaller, not 50-60% bigger... no?
my plan is now to unload to sequential file, rebuild the keyed file (actually extended keyed) and then proceed with my file expansion and conversion (hopefully, there will be no 9A errors and terminations)
