Look at the email log file. You specify that in your email.ini. It should tell you what is happening.
I realize that debugging email problems is a pain. That is because the pathway to the SMTP server may be complex and may change from one email to another.
Emailptr creates keyed files in the tmp dir. It uses a random number to name the file. Perhaps there is some problem with one of these files. You can erase all the files in the tmp folder when comet starts up (it should do this for you).
Next time one of these emails happens, could you forward the email to me?
