Yes you can mix CometANywhere systems as you've described. It would be a real nightmare if the host had to keep track of all of the remote printers. The whole idea behind the "#" printer is that the host doesn't need to know the physical name of the printer. The COSW client actually opens the printer and processes all commands (via COSP.EXE) on behalf of the host. At the remote end, the physical printer is configured from the COSW File\Print Setup menu.
