In any case, I would recommend using Windows printing instead of PCL.

It is less printer dependent on PCL versions installed and works with almost all Windows printers. Some "HP compatible" printers will carry only a subset of the PCL commands.

It is basically the same amount of work. The ONE thing that is a draw back from PCL, is that you cannot load & save images and just recall them on each page... So it is slower if you use images (lots of or large ones). Color handling is also easier with Windows.
