So, VPNs are a way to extend the non-routable IP addresses (92.168 .. for example) of the LAN through the Internet. A VPN adds a layer of encryption and compression. CometAnywhere also does encryption and compression.
If you try to run Comet (not CometAnywhere) through the VPN, all file accesses will be routed through it. It will seem slow. CometAnywhere is meant to run over a relatively slow connection. It routes less frequent terminal traffic.
CometAnywhere can be used through the VPN or alongside the VPN. We do not care. When going through the VPN CometAnywhere will be a touch slower, but you do not have to deal with the routing hassles of firewalls etc. (Is that right Grant and Jay?)
