Don't know if this would help explain this issue, however, I've have been experiencing problems when I've run the install shield for newer versions of c2005 on the server. My experience is that if, for some reason, the install shield is unable to erase the original version of the program (ie. cosp.exe), it will leave the original and make a copy of the new program but use a number for the extension (ie. cosp.1, cosp.2, etc). This caused us to have correct vsn of cosw.exe, but wrong version of cosh.exe, or cosp.exe, etc. Yet the install shield gives you no warning that it was unsuccessful. Other than going into windows explorer and verifying the new update dates for the comet executables, I've been unable to determine any other way to confirm that the updates have been successful. Don't know if this explains Jon's issue, but it sure cause some "fun" issues for me.
