Now that we understand what was causing the error, I checked out why the version of the file server made a difference. Turns out there's a little bug in the 6.11 OPEN that won't allow a user to open a file that it has locked on a different LUN. It's supposed to let you do that. Only other users should be prevented from opening the locked file. Update release coming...
