The report generator spec files are interpreted. The IB source is compiled. So, I would think that if you change the file in some way, that the programs would have to be re-compiled. This suggests some file-to-program list maybe.

Anyway, this is all speculation now. What we hear from all of you is that we should remove the requirement that D00 and actual file must be in the same directory. We are thinking of some overall #files thing, and that the D00 may include a spec as to where the actual file is located. How about this?

DBManager may create a new file called #CFILES in the directory of your choice.
All D00s will also live in this directory. (All current D00s will be copied to that directory when #CFILES is created.)
In each D00 there will be an optional spec defining the directory containing the actual file.
#CFILES will be a Comet Keyed file. #CFILES points to D00 files.
D00s will still be windows files (report generator file names).

The reason we wanted the D00 to live in the same dir as the actual file was to prevent them from getting out of synch. The real question is how intimate should the D00 be to the actual file? You notice we have not exposed ANY way to change the .IXX files outside of the file system.
