I like the idea of .d00 files. Whenever you create a file, you can optionally, graphically insert/create fields (variables) and define their type (numeric, string and/or date) and length. That info would be stored in the .d00 file. Also, down the road we can just use the .d00 file to declare variables and be able to get rid of the old use files and old format statements. Basically, as soon as code opens a file, comet will know automatically without the use of code how the file is populated and what fields or variables are in it. If a 'use file' changed we wouldn't have to recompile 400 programs, because by just opening the keyed file the .d00 would be opened and read. This philosophy can be used in Viewmgr, Report writer and anything that deals with keyed files. This would make comet more marketable, because it would then look/feel like a real off the shelf DB product.
