I like the security plug. Granted, virtual services may be on the way in but it's probably not the norm in the comet community. Our local ISP will co-locate our hardware and we can hang anything we want from it. I would guess most installations are traditional with an inhouse server (or two) and local/remote workstation. The plug allows you to have multiple comet servers on the same plug. One being online running and a second machine hot and ready to go. If your primary machine goes down, just move the plug over and start up the backup machine (assume data/security being handled by same computer). I backup the whole comet system to a second machine every night at a couple installations. If for some reason the main system goes down, it's just a matter of moving the plug to the second computer, change a couple network settings (net name and or IP) and starting up security. It's my guess that just this one feature would trump the software key idea.

I also work with another business basic language and it has a software key. The software key is tied to the hardware in this case. The scheme being used (the Microsoft runtime version) is tied to the hardware. In my case, I'd love to move the software to another computer, but it involves contacting the vendor and having them do something to resent the key and allow it to marry to another system. I guess I could spend the money and buy another license (hmmmm).

Hey, I'm all for a software solution as long as it does it's job without limiting the user. I would hope that Barbara and Jim request imput from the comet community prior to doing any work on this project.
