I'm looking to replace a Server running current comet software. Dell seems to be the easy answer. Been comparing three models. All three have the following in common
- 4 gig ram
- 500 gig mirrored (raid 1) hard drives
- Rack mount
- Redundant power supplies
- Windows Server 2003 Standard
- 10/100/1000 nics
- 3/4 years warranty
Differences as follows
PowerEdge R410 - 2.4 1.0ghz Intel E5530 Xeon (dual cpu board) $4720
PowerEdge 2970 - 2.6 1.0ghz quad core amd (dual cpu board) $4275
PowerEdge R300 - 2.8 1.3ghz Quad Intel Xeon (1 cpu board) $4050
Current server is Intel server 2.6ghz HT, Win2k server, Dual power, Raid 5, 64gig on the hard drives, 10/100 teamed nics. Server is 6-7 years old and we've had one power supply fail - took a month to find another one at used junk dealer.
I like the R300. Not just because it cheaper than the other two. Granted the two more expensive units may allow more expandability, but so does the current Intel server we have installed and we never ended up expanding it. The R300 is faster, lots of hard drive, 1 gbit nic, 4 years of warranty.
Any comments or suggestions? Hope to decide on it this week.
