I didn't respond because I was confused by your attachment. Not sure what you're trying to show us. Is the first part what it should look like and then following that a shot of how it misbehaves?
You suggest that you are compiling and running under Comet16. There haven't been many changes to Comet16 in the past couple of years. When was the last time you compiled this program? Can you tell me the number of the last version of Comet16 where it behaved properly?
