We were running old 293 build on W2000Pro and have experienced same thing. We have found that at times the shortcut info gets changed for Comet launch.
We use N:\comet\cosw.exe /pn=xxx in our startup programs and now just have it in ALL USERS desktop.
What we found was logging onto W2000 pc as admin to the PC, the mapped link gets changed to \\server\d\comet\cosw.exe and wouldn't run.
Also, once properly setup shortcut is completed, we still ran into execution/load problems as well. Not all the time. Just close COSW. Re-launch. Sometimes 2, 3, or 4 launches to get through. You will often see a screen saying no sessions available. Close all the COMETS and relaunch one last time will usually start it.
We just last night finally upgraded to build 320.
