I wanted, at some point, to make the IB language aware of the D00 file (and thus know about fields). That means the D00 file should be located with the actual data file. I think the use of long file names was a mistake. The name for this D00 file should be the same as the actual file.
Perhaps, there should be a way to migrate an overall file definition to many data files. This would satisfy your desire for an overall definition.
What about the case where there were multiple companies involved. Each company had their own I1A file, but each of them were slightly different? Should that be a possibility? How?
