Check your properties on your network card, and make sure power management isnt turning it off to save power. (Device manager, right click your NIC, properties, power management tab).
You may want to write a comet program that runs in a background partition on your machine that simply closes and opens a network file, pauses 60 seconds, and repeats. See if this keeps your network connection alive. Just a couple ideas...
