OK, everyone can feel free to shoot me down here, because there is something I must be overlooking here, but here goes....
READ statement. Always a pain if a record was extracted. INQUIRE statement comes along. INQUIRE rocks. No more extracted record errors. So, do we still need READ to function as it does?
If i'm going to change data, I EXTRACT then write. If I just want to read the data, I do an INQUIRE. But I keep coming across numerous programs that still use READ. So I change them. So far, I have yet to come across a reason for read.
OK, here's where you can all laugh at me. Should we change the OS so that READ works exactly like INQUIRE? So it doesnt error on extracted records? Is there still a folks out there that need the READ functionality? If so, to save everyone a lot of time, should we just implement an XREAD command that works as READ does now, and change READ to work like INQUIRE?
OK, let me have it.....
