My user is running Novell 6.5, just upgraded from NetWare 5.0. Running a variety of Comet, '98, 2002, 2004. Having sharing problems when erasing/creating files. Has anyone come across this problem and found a solution? ie: A file is erase and recreated. Another user tries to write to the file and gets a sharing violation because the file is now a read-only file for all user's except for the user that created the file which has full access.
Here's Novell Technical Information Document:
Symptoms:
Customer wanted files flagged sharable. When they edited the file or created a new one, they weren't flagged sharable.
Solution:
When a file is created, it is flagged normal. When modifying a file, some applications will delete the old file and create a new one. As far as NetWare is concerned, it is a new file and it will be flagged normal. The only way to have a file be sharable automatically upon creation is if the application will do it. This is the same for all flag parameters.
