Comet and the file server are able to handle access to files in a read-only folder. When a file is opened it is always opened for both read and write unless the folder is designated as read-only. The idea behind supporting a read-only folder was that you would then be able to access Comet folders on a CD. Perhaps your request is a topic for further discussion.
